waiting for gayla, #1...

Many of the sidewalks in North Portland were constructed in the early 1900s. Often the curbs still have the iron rings used for tethering horses.

This one on North Mississippi continues to be useful.

Found while waiting for Gayla on her recent visit to Portland for a seed planting seminar, February 2006.

Update (2006.07.12). It turns out this is a thing: http://horseproject.home.comcast.net/. (Thanks to portland ground for the tip!) Unfortunately, the ponies themselves are quite ephemeral, evidently victimized by dark gangs of plastic horsie rustlers. The one shown here is long since gone.
