"Portlandia" by Raymond Kaskey, 1985. The fact books will tell you she is the 2nd largest hammered copper sculpture in the U.S., after the Statue of Liberty.

This is one beefy babe. Her arms are muscular and her thighs are massive. She could ride a sperm whale bareback, subdue any creature clutched between those powerful legs...

The siting makes her true scale difficult to appreciate and photograph. Most of the year she is obscured by dark shadows and the foliage of trees.

On this sunny mid-winter afternoon she felt a little more accessible than usual. Downtown Portland, February 2006.
