The south bank of the Columbia Gorge lies in its own shadows throughout the winter months, as on this otherwise clear and sunny day in November 2005.

High winds frequently buffet the Gorge as well. Earlier on this trip we could scarcely stand without hanging onto the railings at Crown Point. Here Latourelle Falls is blown almost perpendicular by the time it reaches its base.
