soggy blossoms...

We made two visits to Schreiner's Gardens this year. On the first trip we found we were a few days early. Although the blooms were beginning, they were nowhere near their peak of abundance and spectacle of color.

So we returned about 10 days later. On this trip the skies were leaden, wet and leaky. Yes, we found many more blossoms by several orders of magnitude, and in tableau the fields were a moire of all colors.

As individual specimens, though, the iris on this day appeared oppressed by the drizzle. Their delicate soft petals were something like wet tissue, hanging limp and heavy. These are flowers that prefer spring sunshine, blue skies, and gentle breezes.
