eastbank esplanade...

Cycling along the Willamette River in Portland.

The Eastbank Esplanade is a lovely pedestrian/bicycle path along the "left bank" of the river. Completed in recent years, it makes this side of Portland far more enjoyable and accessible than it ever was before.

Sections of this path actually float upon the river itself. The white-capped pilings anchor the structure in position while allowing it to rise and fall with seasonal river levels and phase of the moon.

The distinctive "Big Pink" office tower appears in the background on the other side of the river.

In this image you may also notice an unusual physical deformity, in which a leg has grown in place of my right arm....

Photo by Teshka, really dialed in here with her crummy plastic camera and cross-dressed slide film! September 2006.
