Wandering the narrow alleys of Matera was something like trying to traverse an M. C. Escher print.

We were so often lost and disoriented, tracing and retracing our steps for hours, looking for a way out, any way out, ultimately becoming weak and wobbly with hunger, staggering and famished.

It was a lot of fun!
