lush life (or, the jungle within)...Around our house in Lomé. Enclosing the perimeter of the lot is a whitewashed cement wall, about 2.5m high, topped with a criss-cross of sharpened rebar spikes. (These seem designed to provide a convenient hand-hold for anyone inclined to scale the barrier.) Outside the wall are streets of rutted sand, goats munching on rubbish, men urinating into dirt.
