fortifications...

The ancient walls of old town Dubrovnik were put to the test as recently as 1991, when Serbian forces mounted an attack on the city in a prolonged siege that endured for many months.

The damages from that war have been long since repaired. The only visible evidence to be found from that dark period are a few remnants and photographs on display in the museum of history.

Nowadays the peaceful and beautiful facade of the town are under assault of a much different nature: the influx of countless thousands of tourists from all over the world, each and every day.
