now where are we...

Sometime during the nighttime crossing we must have slipped through a worm-hole. In southern Italy we found ourselves in a fantasy world of stone hobbit-houses, each dwelling with an elaborate conical roof of rough-hewn slate.

These structures in plural are called trulli. One of them is called a trullo.

We rented a small trullo of our own for three nights. Let me tell you: hard cold dark lodgings in the wintertime!

Along with the cold, the sky was flat and featureless during the first two days of our stay. The whitewashed stones of the trulli blend seamlessly into the bland overcast, utterly without contrast. Not a small deprivation for our black & white film!
